Slicing

Slicing is a tool that can be used for 3D publications to better interact and visualize parts of a dataset via a slicing box. A slicing box can be considered as a limiting box that vertically and horizontally filters out any data that is left outside of it.

Creating a slicing box

  • Click on the slicing button from the left menu. Doing so will make a circle appear on under the cursor, indicating that the slicing box can be created by clicking on the map.
  • Click three times on the map to define the 2D area that is to be used as the base of the slicing box.
  • Make one last click by moving the cursor up and down, adjusting the height of the box.

Once the slicing box is created, it can also be edited and moved around.

Editing a slicing box

  • Click on the surface to be edited. An icon will appear indicating the surface can be moved.
  • Press and hold the icon while moving the mouse in the direction of where the surface should be. Doing so will adjust the size of the box accordingly.
  • Click on any point on the map to end the editing process.

Moving and rotating a slicing box

  • Clicking on the slicing box two times makes the movement indicators visible ( arrows pointing in the direction of movement).
  • Press on the arrow and drag it to the position or the rotation you wish to have the box at.
  • Click on any point on the map to end the moving process.

Slicing boxes and the filter applied by the box is available only when the slicing button is clicked on. Clicking on any other button from the left menu permanently deletes the slicing box. Slicing boxes are not persisted to a database.
